The Hopkins system – Developed by I. Hopkins in the early 1900s. This system consists of placing a frame containing eggs or young larvae from a breeder colony above a queenless colony. The frame is laid on its side (horizontally) and positioned above the brood nest of a queenless colony, which then builds queen cells. The queenless colony will feed the cells located on the underside of the horizontal frame and build queen cells there. The trick is to provide eggs and larvae of the appropriate age in order to raise quality queens.
The frame is not included.
